So Thanksgiving was wonderful with family and friends and far too much food! December had its own schedule of festivities complete with Matthew's winter concert, my first round of parent/teacher conferences, a visit to Matthew's Masonic Lodge, and my second observation. Christmas was fantastic! Two weekends before Christmas we had Kauffman Family Christmas at Mike and Karen's house in PA. We spent Christmas Day with my family in NY. The entire holiday season has been a happy loving time so far.
Tonight Matthew and I will join my family in NYC for dinner at Le Madeleine (a TASTY french restaurant on 43rd St.) and then enjoy an evening of Garrison Keillor: A Prairie Home Companion.
What another great year :)Current Mood: thankful

So I'm 23.
I had an amazing day at school... I've never felt so loved! Most of my classes sang to me, made me cards, and wished me lots of birthday wishes. I got cheesecake and raspberries, quesadillas, cupcakes.... it was a great birthday :)
Matthew got me the dvd set of ROME which is so appropriate because (I'm fairly certain) we're going to be in Rome and on a cruise for our honeymoon!!!
The best birthday :)Current Mood: happy

To catch you up...
I am teaching general music at an elementary school in Marlboro, NJ. I love my job! This is the first year music is on a cart in a long time so I am making do. The regular teacher is on a one year maternity leave with her second child so although it is not a permanent position I am still contracted and receiving full benefits as though I was permanent!
Matthew and I are getting married on July 7, 2007... 07-07-07. We just ordered Save-the-Date magnets so those will be going out in the first week of December. Carter is my maid of honor and Bailey is my bridesmaid. We have begun looking for dresses but it's difficult with all of us living a few hours apart in either direction. I have had my dress and basically all except my shoes since the middle of June. We already have the center pieces done and our flowers (as of the last few weeks) will be calla lillies.
Matthew gained a niece on August 1 named Audrey Kathleen Kauffman. Alex (4) has a little sister! They were visiting the last weekend of September and oh my goodness are they adorable! Joy and I seem to get along pretty well and I'm excited to have someone who will be a sister of mine!
On Monday, November 6, I had LASIK surgery and it is absolutely AMAZING!!!!! I wake up and can see, I have no contacts, no glasses, no more solutions to worry about, it's crazy! Every few hours I still announce that I can see. I think Matthew is a little tired of hearing it but it seems that the idea that I can see will never get old :)
I supposed that's all for now.Current Mood: content

student teaching is officially over and I am 5 days from graduation. It's about time I get out of Westminster! Not that it was a bad four years I just got "Westminstered out."
Tomorrow is my portfolio review and I'm not sure whether I should feel comfortable or nervous. The music education department will be interviewing me about my student teaching experience though I am unsure as to how much detail they will expect from my philosophies about music education and education in general.
The final step towards graduation...
On a different note, Matthew and I are getting closer to having a date set for our wedding! YAY!!Current Mood: stressed

So I had a great spring break, visiting Grandmary in Williamsburg, VA, spending lots of time with Matthew, and something extra special the last day of my break...
Monday night, April 17, at around 9:10 pm, Matthew asked me to marry him. We are engaged and will be married in roughly a year.
Yesterday Matthew and I visited my parents and youngest brother, Wesley, and had lobster and champagne to celebrate :)Current Mood: ecstatic

So I sort of forgot about my live journal for a bit...
I have been student teaching at Village Elementary School with Mrs. Gawloski since February 14. I have nearly 700 students with only fourth and fifth graders. It's truly wonderful to be teaching finally :)
I'm getting ready for spring break which I will spend in Virginia with my grandmother.
I don't really have any other news I've just been busy with writing lesson plans and teaching.
Went to an Orff workshop this morning with Rosalyn Payne. GREAT!
Tonight some of my fifth grade students are singing the National Anthem at a Trenton Titans hockey game so I will be there tonight with them.
I'll try to be better at updating though no promises.

The first week of student teaching packet is over! I have completed all my reading and assignments on time as of yet.
We have had great conversations about music education and psychology and have worked with special education students at the high school and preschool level.
I'm so excited and can't wait to actually be out there teaching!
Missing London...

» Great weekend
Spent the New Year working so far. Last weekend I went up to Jiminy Peak with my family in Mass. Friday we spent skiing in the warm WARM weather. Mom and I spent most of the day teaching Christopher how to ski and mastering my "pizza" or "snow plow" moves. I did some night skiing with Mom, Dad, and Wesley. We had fun with Champaigne and the outdoor hot tub that night.
Saturday it rained all day so we went to see Mass MoCA--Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Dinner was at the Thai restaurant that Mom really wanted to go to. Tasty food!!!
We all napped that night before relaxing, playing games, and going to bed. Over night we got 10 inches of snow!! Christopher had to take a train back to NYC for work. Mom, Dad, Wesley and I went skiing/snowboarding for the afternoon. I actually did a little bit of "french fry" on Sunday.
After a long drive home Matthew and I had a nice evening of Stargate.
Yesterday I made breakfast for me and Matthew; Dad-style creamcheese omelets :)
Worked all day then had class. My last semester at Westminster has begun...
Today I have class and about 4 hours of reading to do for class tomorrow night. I'm not excited.

» 2005 Review
So I know I have been awful at updating my journal over the last few months. I'll try to get better...
So to recap the year:
January I spent knitting, substitute teaching at O'Neill High School, and visiting Matthew before I left for London.
February 8 I left for London. Did lots of traveling in Europe, made tons of friends, and built this journal and my website while I was over there.
June 1 I VERY reluctantly came back to the US though I was glad to see my family and Matthew.
Worked in Continuing Education all summer. June 23rd my friend from London, Sab, came to visit. Dad has his retirement in June although he didn't actually retire until the beginning of July.
July 10 I moved into my apartment with Jeremiah and Meghan. July 14 I had my tonsils taken out. July 23 I met Matthew's family at his nephew's 1st birthday party (Jeffrey).
August I went back to school and was an SOS leader (Student Orientation Staff).
September 9 I began working as an employee of the Pottery Barn of Princeton at Market Fair. September 30 my good friend and coworker, Patty Clausen passed away, and on the day of her funeral my grandfather went into the hospital.
October 11 my frandfather passes away and a friend's father is diagnosed with kidney cancer. Soon afterwards a friend and Westminster employee, Victor, passes away.
November 6 my senior recital. November 15 I turned 22.
December 25 Matthew is at home with my family for Christmas. December 28 visited Matthew's parents in Maryland.
I think that covers most of it. It's been a good year and I wish I could do it all again. Wow.
Thank you to all of you that I met in the last year and to all of you who helped me survive it!

» My 22nd Birthday.
I think I can safely say that what could have been my best birthday in years turned out to be the worst.
Found out at 10:30 last night that I had to be at my new practicum site at 7:30 this morning. Tired and pissed off, I went. Good placement, just pissed about how we found out and that Patrick Schmidt has not been helpful in this situation.
My car got hit while I was in class. (Hit and Run.)
While out with some of my favorite people from school (and Matthew), one person showed up and said a few things that just ruined my night. I was hoping to get slightly intoxicated, not necessarily drunk, just slightly intoxicated but that entire plan was ruined. I had one drink and it took me 2 hours to nearly finish it. I left the table twice to sob in the bathroom and nobody even noticed until the second time when I didn't take the time to cool down and make my face less red and was still almost crying the rest of the evening.
There were other things that were little and didn't bother me but the dinner thing really set me off and made the little things big things.
I'm glad Matthew is here but even him being here doesn't feel so great tonight... We are great, I just don't feel like anything right now except crying but that doesn't do any good.
I'm stuck. I never should have gotten out of bed this morning. Good night.
